Counting Cake: Batching Content
This past week I spent time batching content for my first month’s worth of blog posts. This included creating a defined content calendar, finalizing my recipes, baking all the recipes and photographing them for the blog posts, and lastly, creating drafts of each blog post.
I first created a content calendar, using Asana, the same program I used previously to plan out my project over these past weeks. I chose to have a blog post scheduled for every Saturday morning. I decided on Saturdays because I know Sundays are typically grocery shopping and meal prepping days for most families to prepare for the week ahead. Posting on Saturday would be the perfect time to put a new recipe out there while people are looking for inspiration for the week ahead. As it is the end of the year, decided it would be best to start my healthy dessert blog off with the new year, especially as that is when people are looking for healthy recipes the most. So many people make new years resolutions in January with healthy eating and dieting in mind, and my blog will be a contributor to healthy recipes content. I planned out and batch my first month’s worth of content: 1/1/22 Frozen Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bites, 1/8/22 Baked Apple Nice Cream, 1/15/22 Pumpkin Mug Cake, 1/22/22 Peppermint Mocha Latte, and 1/29/22 Strawberries and Cream Graham Cracker Sandwich.
I then went on to finalize the drafts of my recipes. This entitled making each recipe again and making sure I was happy with the ingredients, proportions, cook times, and final products. After I was satisfied with each recipe, I corrected the recipe drafts with and changes and made final recipes that I took photos of for the blog post headers. Each post will include an image of the final product of the recipe, to give readers an idea of what to expect and how their final recipe should look. I wanted to keep a consistent feel among the photographs, so I took a picture of all the final recipes on the same board and I plan on doing the same for future recipes as well. Additionally, once the recipes were finalized, I created drafts of each blog post. This included adding a small introductory paragraph, introducing the recipe to the reader, providing a teaser of the recipe to come.
All that remains is creating a mock-up of a blog post, to visualize it put together, and finalizing any other work. After that, all that remains is to continue on, creating recipes and batching content.
